Stephen Wilkes is one of America's most iconic photographers. Widely recognized for his Day to Night series, these epic cityscapes and landscapes capture moments of humanity as light passes in front the lens of a fixed camera for up to 30 hours. A select group of these images are then seamlessly blended into one final product, capturing the changing of time within a single frame.

This entry in the Day to Night series was created in 2013, during President Obama's second inauguration. With an estimated 1 million people in attendance, this image captures the energy of a sea of waving flags, cheers from proud constituents, and the pride of the nation, all illuminated by a bright and colorful sunrise that would slowly transition into a clear sky day and cool crisp night.
