Join us at Cape Fear Games for the Magic Academy: Bring a Friend Learn to Play event. Suit up, grab a  friend and a Welcome Deck, and learn the ropes with help from our friendly staff. We'll guide you through the basics alongside your teammate before we break off and play some casual Magic games the Two Headed Giant way! This parterned up version of Magic makes this a great starting point for new Magic players in Wilmington.

This event is made to help new players learn the in's and out's of Magic: The Gathering, alongside and experienced teammate. Players need not bring anything with them! We'll provide welcome decks for players and we'll be teaching as we go. Once your teammate is up for playing, we'll get ready for the true team experience, Two-Headed Giant. This is a form of Magic where you play alongside your friend to take out the other team. A perfect way to get accustmed to Magic.

Each Welcome Deck contains two 30-card half-decks. Each 30-card half-deck is themed around a Marvel Character—Black Panther, Iron Man, Black Widow, Spider-Man, or the Hulk—and a color of Magic. Your Welcome Deck will contain the 30-card half-deck featuring the character on the package and another 30-card half-deck of a different color.

For this event, you and your teammate will each play with one of your 30-card half-decks. This will keep the games simple (and put the focus on your Super Hero of choice). After the event, you can combine your two half-decks together to assemble a 60-card two-color deck.

What's more?! Avengers Academy participants that pre-register for the following week's Two-Headed Giant Prerelease event after the Learn to Play are will get a drawstring bag and Hero // Villain token.

This beginner-friendly Magic: The Gathering event at Cape Fear Games helps new players level up their skills, meet the local community, and discover how much fun tabletop play can be. Whether you are completely new to Magic or just looking for a relaxed way to learn, this session offers a welcoming first step into the game.
