8 Bar Games That Pair Perfectly With 8 Local Brews

By: Meghan Cook and Jesslyn WilsonComments: 2
Home for the Holidays in Wilmington? Grab your friends and family and try out these fun bar games and favorite brews from around town.

And don't forget to join us at Hi-Wire this coming Wednesday, December 22nd for our Boards and Brews event. We'll have free games to play as well as a pop-up shop!

Note: This article is geared towards gamers 21+. Please drink responsibly

Skull

Players: 3-6
Playing time: 15-45 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Hi-Wire Brewing's Bed of Nails Brown Ale
Skull, which was played in biker bars for decades, is a coaster-flipping bluffing game that's easy to teach and hard to put down. This twist on a classic bar game pairs well with Hi-Wire's flagship Bed of Nails Brown Ale, which is a new take on a traditional English brown.

The Crew

Players: 2-5
Playing time: 20 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Flying Machine's Trying to Reach You
Grab a draft of Flying Machine's sweet stout and gear up for a galactic mission with this cooperative trick-taking card game that becomes increasingly difficult as you go.

We're Doomed!

Players: 4-10
Playing time: 15 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Mad Mole Brewing's ArMolegeddon
At 8.3% ABV, this Imperial Stout / Double coffee isn't messing around, but creating an escape rocket for the end of the world is serious business - especially when its every world leader for themselves.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf

Players: 3-10
Playing Time: 10 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Edward Teach's Black Spot Black Lager
This surprisingly crisp dark beer is a great match for a game filled with twists and hidden identities - try to figure out who the secret werewolf is before they turn the whole village into howling beasts!

dude

Players: 3-6
Playing time: 5 minutes (per round)
Pairs perfectly with: Bill's Brewing Mankini
Sure, the actual Dude may prefer a White Russian, but if you think a smooth Sour Blonde Ale isn't a good match for an easygoing Big Lebowski card game then well, you know, that's just, like your opinion, man.

Unstable Unicorns

Players: 2-8
Playing time: 30-45 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Broomtail Brewing's Galloping Göse
In the same way that Broomtail Brewing's signature sour comes in a variety of colorful, fruity batches, this hilarious card game offers a variety of ways to betray your friends build the perfect Unicorn Army.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

Players: 2-8
Playing Time: 10-30 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Wilmington Brewing Co.'s Taco Life
Grab a round of Mexican Lagers for the table, but make sure beers are out of hand-slapping range once a round of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza kicks off.

Catan

Players: 2-4 (5-6 with added extension)
Playing time: 60-90 minutes
Pairs perfectly with: Waterline Brewing Co.'s Kolsch
Catan, which was first published in Germany in 1995, has taken over the board game world and become a modern favorite. This quintessential Eurogame is even better when paired with Waterline's clear and crisp German-style beer.
